There are many ways to change your life. Some involve strong introspection and others adventurous journeys. A very nice technique and which I know truly works and highly recommend is the 30 Day Challenge.
You challenge yourself to change. The best thing about this is that you’re the one who sets your own goals and you evaluate yourself: the only person you cannot lie to.
Inspired by Morgan Spurlock (filmmaker of the famous Super Size Me documentary), computer scientist Matt Cutts decided to apply the “30 days of doing something different” into his own life. You could enjoy his TED Talk in which he explains his ideas.
30 Day Challenge is as simple as it sounds. Pick any activity you’d like to do. Really, anything will do. It can be something as easy as you like. Take a picture of something nice; listen to a new song every day, etc. In fact, Cutts says that “the smaller the changes, the more likely they are to stick with you”.
Here’s a list of 100 ideas you could use.
Challenge accepted. If you don’t know how to start, maybe you could try doing some brainstorming and come up with as many little ideas you can. Soon enough, you’ll start feeling inclined to do some of them more than others and there you have your first challenge!
Each day presents a reward
It turns out that 30 days is actually an ideal period to acquire new desirable habits and/or getting rid of old ones you don’t need (such as smoking, for example). Don’t look at it as something you do for 30 days and then get the reward. On the contrary, each day is a reward itself.
30 Day Challenge provides the ground on which you’ll work for 30 days in order to achieve a specific goal. Having a tangible purpose for each of your days actually makes them count. Besides, the whole point of this is your own happiness, so I don’t think there’s a better reason than that!
What will be your 30 Day Challenge?
When doing his own 30 Days Challenges, Matt Cutts wrote a novel, started biking and climbed the Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa, so I ask you:
What would YOU like to do?
“I guarantee you that the next 30 days are going to pass whether you like it or not, so why not think about something you have always wanted to try and give it a shot?”
