Working in banking can be very lucrative. However, many jobs require expertise that usually involves a college education. Fortunately, there are banking jobs you can start at that don’t require extensive education and they can lead to eventual advancement.
Bank Teller
As a bank teller, you would be responsible for assisting customers with their transactions. This includes making withdrawals, cashing checks, processing payments, and checking balances. It involves a lot of interpersonal skills as you will working with people all day. Since most training is done on the job, you don’t need to worry about having prior experience and a majority of bank teller jobs generally require at least a high school diploma. Keep in mind, bank teller jobs can be stressful since you’re dealing with large sums of money. However, this job can be a great starting point if you hope to advance in the banking world.
Become a Mortgage Broker
Mortgage brokers work as intermediaries between those seeking mortgage loans and those who provide loans. Primarily, a mortgage broker works to find a good fit for the loan seeker. Usually, a mortgage broker does not use their own funds to finance a loan. While being a mortgage broker doesn’t require a college education, you still need to take the National Mortgage License System (NMLS) exam before getting started. You need to get a passing score of at least 75 percent before you can start selling mortgages. This test is difficult, and you may need to take it multiple times to get a passing score.
Financial Clerk
Being a financial clerk gives you plenty of opportunities for future advancement. This entry-level position offers on-the-job training with a minimum education requirement of a high school diploma. As a financial clerk, you would be doing administrative work. This includes processing transactions, reviewing financial documents, and updating records. You may also interact with customers and assist them with transactions. Some organizations will have more specialized job openings. For example, you can work as a game cage worker, but this will require more training.
