When it comes to running a business, it can be easy to get stuck in a rut. Often, this leads to stagnancy, or even falling profits. To avoid the pitfalls of maintaining the status quo, challenge yourself to implement better business strategies on a regular basis. Here are a few ways to think differently about your methods!
Become Goal-Oriented
One of the worst business philosophies is to plunge ahead and hope for the best. Instead, you should be goal-oriented. Think of it like looking at a beautiful vista. The horizon represents the furthest distance you want your company to go. This is your vision, where the sky’s the limit. It gives you a sense of meaning and purpose, with something important to work toward. The middle ground represents your shorter-range goals. This could be anywhere from a month, to a quarter, to a year. These goals should be designed with your vision in mind. They should be specific, measurable, and attainable, and are generally outcome-based goals, such as growing your customer base by a certain percentage. Finally, the foreground represents short-term goals. Ideally, these are made on a daily or weekly basis. It could be a list of the tasks you hope to accomplish each day. Or, it could be a measurable challenge that you set yourself, such as a certain number of customer calls per week. When you are goal-oriented, you are beginning with the end in mind and giving your labors a purpose. This purpose can keep you motivated and aligned with your vision.
Think Lean
Thinking lean in business has become a catch phrase, but what does it mean? Lean began as a way to reduce waste in manufacturing, but it has since been applied to all types of industry. It is the philosophy of making constant improvements, especially in improving workplace efficiency. Lean business philosophy focuses on reducing waste and improving value for customers. There are five basic principles, which are to define value, map the value stream, create flow, use a pull system, and pursue perfection. Focus on Social Media
Social media is no longer just about connecting with friends and families. Smart businesses are getting in on the action by regularly posting creative and compelling content. The more recognizable you can be on social media, the more people you will attract. Having an established and well-regarded presence will facilitate drawing the public eye as well as better connecting with current customers.
It is time to challenge the status quo. No matter what you current business model looks like, exploring the different focuses available and trying out new ones will certainly increase your chance of success. Decide now that your business will be forward thinking!
